Hi I have a Golf MK4 1.6. It has the same problem. The EPC light comes on then the revs fluctuate between 900-1100. The engine goes off in the middle of the highway! Or in traffic while driving slowly. Yesterday I started the engine but when I stepped on the gas pedal, no response.
COLEMAN TOKEI @colemantokei. My daughter’s 2003 Mk4 VW Golf wouldn’t start all of a sudden, after performing flawlessly for 2 years after purchasing it used with 230,000 kms on it. Turned out that we had to replace the Speed Sensor. In Vancouver BC, that turned out to be a $500.00 CAD job.
Top Answer. James B. January 5, 2021. The VW Golf 4 automatic gearbox problems are grinding noise and stuck in gear. The transmission is one of the most important parts of the vehicle. You will come into problems at some point. Hard shifts may arise and that is no good. There could be jerking.
Hi guys, sorry to jump on board this thread but my 1998 VW golf 1.6 SE also failed it’s MOT today on emissions . My golf is high mileage at 182,658 but she runs very well and is up and down the M3 as part of my daily 56 mile commute. It failed across all the emission tests and results were: Fast Idle 1 CO % Vol 4.242 HC ppm vol 883 Lambda 0.871

I had a 150 mile motorway journey today though and managed an average of 46 mpg! I was taking it easy though, doing 55-60 mph the whole way [H] [:$] thanks all! my punto 1.2 before my golf did quite abit better obviously so just wondered if it was the car or was the norm for a 1.6! oh well its worth it!
MK4 1.6 SR AKL Help Needed. Pleqase guys i need some advise. anybody have the correct Vacuum diagram for the vehicle? I need to know where the vqacuum pipe for the throttle body goes to. Also on the back of the intake on top by the throttle body there is suppose to be like a pressure relieve plug that controls the Pressure in the intake.
Watch on. Before you start removing the speed sensor, place a car jack under the gearbox. STEP 1: remove those 5 screws from the engine mount. It has to be removed. STEP 2: use a flat blade screwdriver to remove the speed sensor connector. STEP 3: use a T45 Torx to remove the speed sensor from the gearbox.
